Creative Industries Evaluation: Term 01 2011

Synopsis

My film walks the viewer through "a day in the life of Jocelyn Savage." It shows the adventures of a teenage girl and represents freedom and happiness. Spirituality is also incorporated through the soft music and facial expressions of the model.

A synopsis is a summary given in brief terms that covers the major points of your film. Synopses are usually more in-depth than a mere "summary", and aim to give a fair idea of the topic.

Evaluation of Film Progress

Introduction:

Has your film been edited to engage the audience initially and to establish the tone of the piece?

Yes. there are cross dissolves and slow motion to create a soft, romantic feel.

What are you going to do to engage the audience? Describe the sounds, lighting, shot types and effects that fit with the genre of your film and how you will incorporate these at the start of your film.

the lighting is soft, with a range of shot types to engage the audience. the music is slow and meditative which adds to the spiritual aspect of the film. the film starts with just the voice of the singer which instantly creates a peaceful atmosphere.

Have you carefully chosen audio to suit the pace of the project?

Describe the audio and the pace

the audio is slow and peaceful to reflect what happens in the film.

Describe the pace of your music and the type of shots (close-up, mid, high, etc) that you will be creating to fit with the music

the model makes body movements on the beat of the music and the movements are slow paced when the music is slower and quieter. slow motion is also used to enhance this.

Have you included credits at the start or end of your film?

What information should be included here?

no.

but information should include sound editor, filmer, actor/s etc

Emotional intention

Have you edited the footage to create heightened expression and audience responses? Describe how you are going to achieve this. i.e. cross dissolves, graphic matches, effects etc

the film creates a sense of peace and meditation within the viewer. also happiness and relaxation due to the cross dissolves and slow motion.

Editing techniques

Have you created links between shots and throughout the film to emotionally engage the viewer with your story ( i.e. is your film tied together through theme, colour, story, objects etc?)

it is tied together through the stages of the day (morning - afternoon)

The film is will depict a road trip in the life of three teenagers in the summer, and focus on the themes freedom, social bonding, and nature. It will be featured on beaches, at the currumbin rock pools, and in a meadow. The talent will be acting in a way that demonstrates the themes, being very fluid and peaceful. Costumes will be very casual, as most of the film will be shot at the beach, costumes will mostly be bikini's and summer dresses. However, pieces of material will be used to add effect. Overall, the music video will be very creative, relaxed and summery.

Gypsy & the Cat - The Pipers Song

Song Lyrics:
In the night see a face in the dark
In his face see a light shining gold
And this man, walks alone singing songs of victory
When he sleeps there’s a struggle and the light begins to fade

Heaven tells the past all he had was love and fear
He was stronger then all he had was love and pain
Then one day he found a stroke, evil tears run down his face
Another change good to buy good to buy

Where to run, are you there are you there
In the winter sun, he’s dancing in the wind
Where to run, are you there are you there
In the wilderness, look and you will find him

Another weeps a child sleeps his broken heart
A bleeding wine just passing time their horror shows
They’re at his grave at Valid creek where he began to see
The evil tide that proves that always good still within

Heaven tells the past all he had was love and fear
He was stronger then all he had was love and pain
Then one day he found a stroke, evil tears run down his face
Another change good to buy good to buy

Where to run, are you there are you there
In the winter sun, he’s dancing in the wind
Where to run, are you there are you there
In the wilderness, look and you will find him

Thunder, thunder in the time
Thunder, waiting for a sun
Thunder, thunder in the time
Thunder, waiting for a sun
Tonight tonight see the sun

Where to run, are you there are you there
In the wilderness, look and you will find him
Where to run, are you there are you there
In the winter sun, he’s dancing in the wind

Where to run, are you there are you there
In the wilderness, look and you will find him
Where to run, are you there are you there
In the winter sun, he’s dancing in the wind

Genre - historical romance/drama
Mise en Scene - shots go between above on the deck to below in the lower parts of the ship. there is chaos in the bottom of the ship and at the top it is still quite relaxed. this reflects the classes of people because the upper class is on the top deck and the lower is below. lighting is dark in the lower parts of the ship and warmer at the top. also suggest classes. the acting is panicked and fast paced, action packed in the lower parts of the ship. at the top of the ship the acting is relaxed and normal.
Cinematography - close up shots of the people down below to show fear and worry. wide angle shots at the top to show the relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere of the upper class.
Sound - dramatic, fast, loud in the bottom of ship.
Lighting - Dark, cold, blue haze

Genre: Foreign
Camera Movement: Slow movement at first to build anticipation, then fast movement. Camera movement is sped up and slowed down to enhance action and emotion.

Notting Hill

Genre: Romantic Comedy. There is romance, kissing, as well as laughter and jokes.

Style of Acting: Light hearted, fairly slow paced, relaxed, happy, romantic

Props: Clothing is normal, everyday, although fashionable and trendy. However different characters wear different clothing that reflects their personality (eg the extroverted family member wearing a bright orange dress and orange hair), bench with marks of love and a secret garden

Lighting: Mid- warm temperature lighting, clear, easy to see, mood lighting, lighting is cooled down when the couple is outside in the garden

Setting: Set in his family's home, and a secret garden. The garden suggests romance. Modern setting.
